I had my hearty lunch at the mall today. Then, I shopped for groceries next. But before the latter activity, I strolled around the mall and noticed many shops having their end-of-year sale.

Since it’s January, a year-end sale is a common event in stores. I found many retailers at the mall offering markdown on their offerings to make room for new merchandise and clear out their inventories. Typical discounts range from 50 to 70 percent off the products’ original costs.

While the end-of-year sale is a fantastic chance for me to avail of items at discounted prices — even if I have not been eyeing any products all year — I just walked around the mall.

I didn’t buy anything. As a penny-pincher, I’m not really fond of keeping an eye out for end-of-year sales at my preferred stores and online retailers. I told myself I already have what I need at home. Hence, it was unnecessary to purchase anything this morning, except for the groceries.

As you can see, the parsimonious me doesn’t engage in mindless spending and shopping during year-end sales. It’s uncharacteristic of me to splurge or go on shopping sprees. Of course, I do these expensive activities, yet once in a blue moon or quite rarely.
