The silver sovereigns in “Wonka” movie

I watched many Hollywood movies released this year and I like them. These films consist of:
1. “The Whale,” in which Brendan Fraser bagged the Academy Award Best Actor prize;
2. “Elemental”;
3. “Barbie”;
4. “Oppenheimer”;
5. “Killers of the Flower Moon”; and
6. “Wonka.”
Regardless of what’s going on in the entertainment industry lately, I still and will always like Hollywood movies. I grew up with them. Besides, I like that they’re in English and are relatable.
Anyhow, I like to end 2023 with “Wonka.” I watched this movie starring Timothee Chalamet last Wednesday, December 20, 2023, and I must say it’s a heartwarming Christmas family movie 🎄❄️🎅☃️ Timothee’s singing voice is also cool and soothing, especially in his rendition of “Pure Imagination”.
In terms of money, which is my blog’s theme, “Wonka” featured the character of Willy Wonka mentioning “12 silver sovereigns” in the song “Hat Full of Dreams.” According to Bing AI, these coins are real with a nominal value of one pound sterling.
Furthermore, the AI chatbot cited that the first-ever sovereign’s minting happened in 1489 in England during King Henry VII’s reign. Anyway, I think Willy Wonka’s life is a rags-to-riches one.
In “Wonka” — which has topped the international box office at US$43.2 million, per Variety — the main character financially struggles. On Willy Wonka’s first evening in the city, he loses the final of his 12 silver sovereigns in a sewer grate, which is his last penny. Director Paul King’s musical fantasy film also features peasants who the rapacious, chocoholic chocolate cartel deliberately hoodwinks.
In the initial scenes in “Wonka,” the audience can agree that “the greedy beat the needy every time.” But, of course, the funny, little Oompa Loompa (played by Hugh Grant, who said in an interview that he was already in his career’s “freak show stage” Hahaha) saves the day !
