The Castella Cake
~ Wednesday, October 4, 2023 Blog Post ~
I’m following @hungryhugh on Instagram. This food influencer recently posted about his delightful experience of having a massive slice of the Taiwanese “Yellow and White” Castella cake in Tokyo’s Shibuya district.
The heavenly sponge cake sold by Fan Pai Pai store looked scrumptious and I commented that it is delectable with chocolate milk or milk. Food Instagrammers like Hungry Hugh are digital marketers. I understand these social media influencers receive a commission when promoting or featuring a particular food joint on their Instagram accounts.
From the looks of the light, fluffy, huge, and airy Castella cake, Hungry Hugh convinced me that this Taiwanese delight is worth trying. In Tokyo, indulging in a slice of Fan Pai Pai’s offering will cost me 780 yen, or US$6 at the time of writing this blog post.
Sometime in 2020, I remember I had a Bokksu box filled with Japanese treats dispatched to me. I’m not sure if Fan Pai Pai ships their food products overseas and it would be nice if they do.
Since I’m managing my finances and cannot make it to Shibuya soon, I might as well try the many local varieties of the sponge cake here and not bother myself. After all, it is just a sponge cake. Haha.
