Revisiting the Philippine Stock Exchange 2023 / Relishing My Shangri-La Circle Membership’s Perks (38 Photos) [Part 1 of 2]

I revisited the Philippine Stock Exchange in Bonifacio Global City in the Philippine city of Taguig yesterday, Friday, July 21, 2023. The last time I visited the bourse was eight years ago, in January 2015, and it was located in the adjacent Makati City.
I gathered from a local newspaper, The Manila Times, that the Philippine Stock Exchange index or PSEi is predicted to climb again to the 7,300 to 7,500-range by the end of this year. This forecast posted on the Philippine daily newspaper on Thursday, July 20, 2023 is amid the signs of a decelerating domestic inflation and an anticipated pause in interest rate hikes.
If the New York stock market has the Charging Bull statue and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange has the Bulle und Bär, the Philippine Stock Exchange has the “Path to Prosperity” sculpture. Based on the information placed on the artwork’s side, the sculpture represents the Philippine stock market’s ascent and how it has created wealth and prosperity to Filipino investors.
Additionally, I learned that the “Path to Prosperity” sculpture at the Philippine Stock Exchange’s front side symbolizes the Makati and Manila stock exchanges’ unification.
I visited the Philippine Stock Exchange’s library. I thought it was an expansive repository with many reference materials. But the librarian informed me that that was all they have got and that most references were already uploaded online.
I found plenty of interesting titles related to banking, finance, the international markets, and so forth. There were old and new books published in the 1990s and the 2010s.
Besides the books, magazines, periodicals and annual reports, the Philippine Stock Exchange’s library also has a Fortune magazine with ChatGPT proponent Sam Altman on the cover. Since he and his innovation is quite relevant today, I got myself photographed with the Fortune publication.
I can see a lot has changed since my first visit to the Philippine Stock Exchange in 2015. Besides the bourse’s relocation, its trading floor is no longer operational.
Anyhow, as a lifelong investor and fine dining and hotel staycation aficionado, I found yesterday as a very productive day and scrumptious, too, as I dined at the Shangri-la Hotel — The Fort’s Raging Bull Burgers, Bake House, and a nearby Starbucks to end my Philippine Stock Exchange revisitation.
I also relish having my Shangri-la Circle membership as I can rack up points for my hotel transactions, besides enjoying the cozy and luxurious hotel rooms. This article has a second part which is about my food trip at the Shangri-la Hotel at the Fort.
