January is a fantastic time to check in on my financial well-being and ensure I’m on the right track financially and will have a comfortable retirement.

Of course, I’ll keep paying myself first. I’ll also ensure I’m not saddled with a shortfall in retirement savings or high-interest debts.

I’ve just been reflecting on what will be my biggest costs this year and in the coming years. They are dining out and overseas and domestic travels.

I know I’ve been a miser and an extreme saver. Yet, last year, I read many articles online informing me that such restricting financial attitudes are not all correct. After all, some of one’s hard-earned money should be enjoyed and not all should be saved for retirement spending.

As a miser, I’m a little bit convinced and will try to let go of some of the funds I saved for a long time. Haha. At this stage in my life, I want things and activities that are practical, relaxing, and definitely of great value for my money.

Thus, I’m fine with spending on dining — whether casual or fine dining — and domestic and foreign travels. These two pleasures are the expenditures which my savings and investments are for, besides a comfortable retirement. I will just be wary of overspending or going over the budget, which is what I avoid at all costs.
