Back in around 2016 to 2017, I read Twitter messages about former Bank of England Governor Mark Carney engaging with the then forthcoming British pound sterling polymer banknotes.

This week, I encountered the Philippine peso polymer banknotes starting to be circulated in the Philippines.

As this blog is about my financial and economic thoughts and experiences, I want to share these images of the Philippine peso polymer banknotes which is in 1,000-peso denomination.

I gathered that the 500-peso version of this plastic currency will also be issued in the Southeast Asian country in the near future. The Philippine central bank, the Bangko Central ng Pilipinas, has issued some guidelines to the public regarding how to engage with the polymer banknotes.

I understand that as this year winds down and we are merely seven weeks away from the new year 2023, more of the 1,000-Philippine peso polymer banknotes will commence to be circulated in the country’s economy, mixing with the old versions of the currency.

In these seven images, I juxtaposed the new Philippine peso polymer banknotes against the old versions of the 1,000-Philippine peso and 500-Philippine peso banknotes. Additionally, I captured the banknote’s obverse and reverse faces.
