I’m officially saying farewell FOR GOOD to dining out and eating fast food (Sheena Ricarte, July 2022).

I’m officially saying farewell FOR GOOD to dining out and eating fast food. Besides the rising costs of these nutriments, I hate the meager portions or smaller servings I get these days amid the soaring inflation rates worldwide.

Since last year, inflation has come for gas prices and grocery bills. This economic problem has also showed up in restaurant reviews these days. Diners complain about the increasingly expensive prices and smaller servings or “shrinkflation” at dining establishments and other various enterprises generally.

I encountered a clip last week of British politician and aspiring prime minister Rishi Sunak on a debate with rival fellow politician and government official Liz Truss. As they clashed over their economy plan for the United Kingdom, Sunak concisely described inflation, saying:

“Everyone’s economy is different. But the number-one challenge that we face here is INFLATION. You guys all see it, right? All your bills every week, every month they’re going up and up and up. The most pressing economic priority for the new Prime Minister and the new government is to grip inflation. We cannot make it worse. Inflation is the enemy that makes everybody poorer. It erodes your savings. It erodes your living standards. It means that those of you that have mortgages will see your interest rates go up higher and higher. So I don’t think the responsible thing to do right now is launching some unfunded spree of borrowing and more debt. That will just make inflation worse. It will make the problem longer. (Liz Truss) We have to be honest. Borrowing your way out of inflation isn’t a plan. It’s a fairy tale.”

“Shrinkflation” or these smaller food portions have made me decide to stop dining out and ordering fast food with the mobile applications FOR GOOD. After all, I do not feel satisfied and instead feel I squandered my money after eating.

Besides the smaller serving sizes, I have also observed the FOOD QUALITY from the restaurants and fast food establishments has suffered, making me reject their offerings more now.

I think restaurant and fast food are not financially worthwhile anymore. In fact, I now consider them a complete and expensive waste of my hard-earned money !

Hence, beginning this week onward, I will just cook at home and consume the food I purchased from the supermarket for the week. I feel better with these alternatives.

They make me feel that I’m spending my money wisely which has always been my priority, per my May 19, 2022 blog post which is among my pinned posts here on Medium.com: “I HATE COSTS ! 33 Costs I Avoid.”
