(Part 1 of 2) As years go by, I have become more frugal.
~ Friday, December 15, 2023 Blog Post ~
2023 is near its ending and this year, I became more frugal. I’m much more mindful now with how I spend money. I realized there’s no point in spending for certain things. Like what I have always said in this blog, I really don’t like wasting money.
I learned to cut back more this year, and select the more affordable yet, in my view, are better options. I’ve also become a do-it-yourselfer or DIYer more. I realized it’s best not to pay for certain services and just do them myself instead. Except for food, I didn’t buy clothes, footwear, and so forth this 2023. There are also many instances this year when I had to cancel meet-ups and intended visits to certain places. I realized they’re just a waste of money and time.
I’m trying to remember the most expensive thing I paid for this year, and I realized there is none. I dine out, order fast food, have ice cream, drink Starbucks, and so on, but I really control my spending. Every expense is within the month’s budget. I also check out my credit cards’ offered cashbacks, rebates, promos, and discounts when shopping or dining. I don’t spend much on dining out or fast food lately and I’m glad about this personal finance accomplishment.
In the past six years, I have had the time to read articles with frugality as the topic and I felt encouraged to spend less and less and less on things I don’t really like or need. Since I think about my financial future a lot, it feels better for me if I save more money since this financially rewarding habit makes me confident about the years ahead, personal finance-wise. Saving more is like making hay while the sun shines.
My frugal lifestyle will go on for the rest of my life. Maybe I’ll splurge at some point, but on what thing and when this event will happen is still undetermined.
